During one of our summer family trips, we came across a roadside attraction, panning for gold. These gold prospecting or mine tour attractions are popular in areas historically known for mining. All these places guarantee that everyone who goes on the tour will find gold and keep it!
To pan for gold, prospectors use gold pans to first gather a considerable amount of material from a prospective area. The purpose of the pan is to separate the gold from the rest of the content. This separation occurs when water washes away the lighter material and the gold sinks to the bottom. Although the process requires much effort, it’s also gratifying.
This story reminds me of how we should look at God’s word like we’re prospecting for gold. We need to read the entire passages for context, then re-read sections. Afterward, go back and review verses that stand out to us and, finally, sift specifics words for meaning and application.
Today take the time to approach God’s word, knowing he guarantees you’ll find gold.
