The other day a friend of mine and our kids went out fishing in the Florida Keys. It took us quite a while to get to our fishing spot. Once we did, we had a good time and caught some fish. As the sun was starting to set over the horizon I realized our time was running short and we would soon be navigating in the darkness.
As we started to head back, the sun continued to set. I witnessed the warm and comforting horizon slowly disappear into darkness. This was worrysome because there are many, many places to run aground easily and we weren’t fully prepared to navigate at night. We did however have a digital GPS and navigational chart on a screen guiding us as to where we should go.
We eventually neared what appeared to be the boat ramp but could barely see. In that moment God graciously reminded me to turn off my truck alarm off as that would turn all the lights of the truck on. The moment I pushed the button, the lights reflected off the waters and we could clearly see the ramp. We then confidently made our way back in.
I consider the bible our GPS in the darkness and we are called to be the light for others to find the right path.
