As I channel surfed, I came across the “Shaq Life” show. Curious, I stuck around. Interestingly enough, this one episode was on fatherhood.
In the episode, he alludes to the love and hate relationship he had with his father. He recounts the enormous influence of discipline in his upbringing due to his father’s military background. He also recounts the first time his father told him he loved him.
During that moment, I could see a restlessness still lingering in Shaq’s heart. This behemoth of a man with all his accomplishments and commanding presence is still deeply affected by his father’s words and memories.
As a son and father myself, I was reminded of the lasting influence a father can have or not have on his children. More importantly, it’s encouraging to know that although we may do our best, we will mess up, but we all have a heavenly father that never fails us. My hope is He use all of me, flaws and all, to raise godly children.
