When I first got into archery, I researched everything I could about the subject. I watched many videos, read articles, and tried out gear. Because I go all out when jumping into something, I settled on a compound bow.
For those unfamiliar with this kind of bow, a compound bow is a bow that uses a levering system, usually composed of cables and pulleys, to bend the limbs. It uses a system of pulleys with cams that provide the archer an advantage over recurve bow or longbow because the limbs of a compound bow are much stiffer.
What all this means is that the bow generates and stores an enormous amount of potential energy before the archer releases the string. Of course, all this stored energy must eventually transfer somewhere, and that somewhere is onto an arrow.
Unfortunately, if you don’t load an arrow and “dry fire” the bow, all of that kinetic energy is transferred to the limbs and the bow itself, thus damaging the bow beyond repair. The bow is an example of our lives while the arrows are our Christian walk. We have enormous potential, but when we don’t allow Christ to load his arrow, we run the risk of ruining our life.
