If you’re a frequent reader of my writing, you’d know I’m interested in quite a few things. One of my favorite activities is archery. What I enjoy most about archery is the focus and attention it requires—more than this, archery rewards the archer committed to consistency.
Archery, like a few other target-focused sports, requires a person to repeat the same sequence of actions over and over again. What’s most important, though, is making sure these sequences of steps are correct every time. This kind of consistency promotes a reduction in error and an opportunity for correction.
Only after the archer dials in his bow and is consistent in his shooting can he make slight changes and adjustments. This commitment to accuracy and consistency makes for the best archers. There is only one goal for all of this preparation and training: to hit the target.
Archers use all of these skills to shoot an arrow towards a specific target and specific purpose. Every shot is deliberate and well placed. Therefore, the arrow is an effective weapon for defending against and attacking. This example reminds me of how scripture tells us how we, as men, are blessed with children because they are like arrows.
The bible uses this analogy because we’re in a spiritual war and must fully prepare our children before sending them off. To hit the target, we must be deliberate, consistent, and accurate. We achieve this when we read the bible daily, pray daily, and apply it daily to our lives.
