My love for books and reading didn’t start until after I graduated from college. I think it’s because I decided what I wanted to read and when for the first time in my life. Since then, almost my entire collection of books is non-fiction. My passion for non-fiction books is because I enjoy reading for practical applications.
One of my favorite books to read is autobiographies. Whenever I read an autobiography, I imagine that person sitting in front of me recounting their life. I see it as an opportunity I would otherwise not have in real life. What’s more, even if I did, they will never be able to set aside that much time for me.
A few years ago, I discovered an even better alternative to reading autobiographies, audiobooks. Audiobooks of autobiographies take the engagement to a whole other level. I especially enjoy the audiobooks narrated by the author. If I close my eyes and listen, it becomes real for me.
I tell this story because we have an even more fantastic book, the Bible. The Bible is God sitting down with us and recounting, teaching, instructing, planning out, and directly filling our minds and souls. The words become real and alive when you start viewing them as if God were sitting right in front of you speaking.
Think about this the next time you approach the Bible. It’s more than a book; it’s God sitting face to face with you giving you his very best.
