I’ve always been a big watch guy. I still remember going to the department store to buy my very first watch, a Swatch Watch (yes, I’m dating myself). After that, I’ve owned, sold, and traded digital Casios, Seiko automatics, and a couple of luxury collectibles. But, there’s something about watches that’s always drawn me. I think it’s the idea that I can know at any given moment what time it is and how much of it I have left. It’s about knowing how much time I have or don’t have to accomplish or finish something.
Not surprisingly, many of the watches I’ve owned are either highly functional or reflect something about my personality. So when a few years ago, when fitness trackers starting coming out, I was all over them. When fitness trackers first came out, they had minimal functions. They could tell you how many steps, the time, and a few other things. However, in a relatively short amount of time, these fitness trackers evolved to become state-of-the-art health devices. Today, they can track your fitness activities and get notifications, track your sleep patterns, monitor your blood oxygen levels, use built-in GPS, take phone calls, and so much more!
What most amazes me is the detailed data they provide. Every morning when I sync my watch, it gives me information about how much sleep I got, how “charged” I am, how many steps I need to take, how many calories I’ve burned, and other suggestions on how to achieve optimal health. All this reminds me how we too must “sync” up with God’s word every day for Him to guide us from where we are to where we need to be spiritually. So today, get in the word and let God guide you toward achieving optimal spiritual health.
