“What happened to your hand?” I asked my friend after seeing his bandaged hand. “Well, it turns out that I contracted MRSA at my local gym.” “How did that happen?” I asked. “Well, I had this small cut on my hand. After a few days, I noticed it was starting to swell and didn’t look right. Eventually, it grew and was painful.”
He then recounted how he went to his doctor, who diagnosed him having MRSA. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA for short, is an infection caused by a type of staph bacteria that’s become resistant to many of the antibiotics used to treat ordinary staph infections.
Historically found in hospitals or other health care settings, MRSA is becoming more common among healthy people. As it’s spread through skin-to-skin contact, people are contracting MRSA through more common places such as gyms and other crowded places.
In order to eradicate the infection, my friend needed to take immediate and drastic action. His doctor prescribed a regimented treatment plan. My friend eventually fought the battle, but it took time and dedication.
His story reminds me of how fear can take hold of us and slowly consume our confidence. It takes radical action to counter this disease. The way to cure fear is by reading and meditating on God’s word and his promises.
