We can agree, the world has gone mad when people start fighting over toilet paper. The other day an Australian mother and daughter were charged over a toilet paper brawl in a Woolworths. This fight came about as people start to panic over scarcity due to the coronavirus.
As a Floridian, I can attest to crazy behavior that ensues during hurricane season. However, this t.p. shortage is a new one for me. Intrigued, I researched the possible reasons for the obsession and discovered various theories.
Here are the top two theories presented. The first is that people have an inherent need to not only care for themselves but also loved ones. The second is that people may be trying to eliminate one relatively easy risk, rather than tacking a much larger and almost impossible one.
I believe the reason for the toilet paper shortage is a combination of both. Meeting for our needs and those of our loved ones is honorable, but when it comes to hoarding, it becomes an issue of buying security. When we accumulate beyond reasonable use, we are not trusting in God’s provision.
