For Mother’s Day this year, the boys and I decided to plant a garden for my mother-in-law. It was her wish to cultivate some herbs and other simple plants. Knowing this, we purchased a variety of vegetable seeds and some topsoil.
When we arrived at her home, she led us to the area she wanted the garden. As I surveyed the soil, I noticed the ground was rocky, and the dirt lacking in nutrients. We then removed the rocks, tilled the ground, and added the fresh layer topsoil. Afterward, we planted the new seeds accordingly and showered them with some water.
Unfortunately, the following day and a strong storm came through and flooded the entire garden bed. Unbeknown to us, the area she selected was prone to flooding during heavy rains. After a couple of weeks, I asked her about the garden, and she mentioned that only a few plants were growing.
This story reminds me of our responsibility as Christians. Our job is to help spread the gospel and plant the seed of faith with others regardless of the outcome. We don’t need to concern ourselves about whether our efforts will yield a crop of reward. Instead, God calls us to do our best, and He will take care of the rest.
