The recent heavyweight championship rematch between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder was a stunner for many. During the fight, Fury dropped Wilder twice. After punishing Wilder for almost seven rounds, referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight after Wilder’s corner threw in the towel as he was getting pummeled in a neutral corner.
The win was significant for Fury in that Wilder was the devastating puncher in their first fight 14 months ago. What’s more, Fury came back from drug and alcohol abuse to win the title for a second time. Fury also handed Wilder his first loss in 12 years as a pro and after Wilder had knocked out 41 of his previous 43 opponents.
Many who witnessed the fight said it just seemed Fury had more stamina and heart. It looked like a completely different fight from the last. It appeared Fury had trained for twelve rounds and more.
This story reminds me we are in a constant battle with an enemy that is relentless and never lets up. That’s why we’re to train every day for the full twelve rounds. We will get battered, we will take a beating, but in the end, we’re guaranteed victory with Christ in our corner.
