One of my bucket list items was to rebuild a car from the ground up. The dream became a reality when one day I discovered my neighbor had an abandoned 1985 Corvette sitting in his garage. Dormant for over 20 years, I saw this as my opportunity. Not the most iconic of Corvette’s, but it was an ideal project for me at the time.
As I negotiated with him, he kept telling me how wonderful the car was when he drove it. He recounted all the great times he had in it. The car was purchased new by him and he was the only owner. He recounted with great pride of those times. Unfortunately at the end of the transaction he mentioned the car had no reverse.
It seems the reason why the car was stored away for so long due to this issue. Apparently the car’s reverse had started to fail slowly until finally, the transmission would not engage. Sometimes I feel we need our reverse to fail. We have a tendency to go back to our old ways and hit that reverse full throttle.
Eventually I did fix the reverse issue but I spent more time flying forward than going back.
Read and meditate on Philippians 3:12-14. What do these verses say to you?
What events, places, temptations, things lead you to go in reverse?
Meditate / Make It Real:
What will you start doing today towards looking and moving ahead, pressing forward?
