Living in a state surrounded by water, it was only logical our kids learned to swim early. All of our children started taking lessons when they were just six months old. I still look back on those days and smile with joy.
When they first started swimming, there was a sense of worry and uncertainty in their eyes. I could see my kids kick and gasp as they tried to find the ground beneath them. Soon after, they started to sink. When I saw them going down, I reached out and pulled them up to safety.
In a couple of weeks, they learned to swim and discovered they could rely on me. When the time came, each of my children kicked and paddled confidently straight toward me. I can still see the intense focus in their eyes and smile as they joyfully swam into my open arms.
This moment in my life reminds me of how it is with our heavenly father. He allows us to go through difficult times, but he’s always there to pull us up. He wants us to learn from our trials so that we focus on Him. In time we’ll learn to stop worrying about sinking and start swimming safety into his open arms.

What do you cling during those sinking times in your life?

Your heavenly father will never leave you to “drown” in your situation; knowing this, what will you do to swim to him?
